Market Research and Affiliate Marketing

With the economy in a recession, we are all looking for more ways to make some extra money. This is making the idea of making money online more and more appealing, and one of the most popular things that we hear about is affiliate marketing. There is enough information available about affiliate marketing to overwhelm most people at first, but the basic idea is simple. The first step in the process is market research.

The most important step is to research the markets that you have an interest in. Then you need to find out what people, your potential customers, are looking for. This can be done using keyword research; finding the exact words, or phrases, that customers are typing into their search fields. You can rest assured that if you do not research your customers, you will come to regret it later.

By identifying the keywords most commonly searched by your customers, you will be able to more actively move your websites and landing pages into higher rankings, thus creating nonstop traffic from your targeted audience.

Researching your keywords is not as difficult task as it seems. Begin by searching "Google keyword tool external". This will bring you to the free Google Keyword Tool. This is where you will enter a word or phrase that pinpoint the item or area that you have chosen to market as an affiliate.

After entering the keyword or phrase, simply click on "get keyword ideas" and the program will generate a list of keywords, and rank the popularity of the market using the number of times your keywords are searched every month.

This information is used to gauge the demand and availability of your product, and also, will show you how much competition your product has. You would want to choose a product that is readily available, but not one that has so much competition, you have no chance at your page ranking highly.

The most important thing to remember is that there has to be an audience for the product that you choose to market. With affiliate marketing, your costs are low, but you also are investing time. A small amount of research into your niche market will save you a lot of wasted time in the long run.
